Local Spots for Spending Spring Outdoors

With temperatures finally rising it’s time to think about spending more time outside. Luckily, there are plenty of beautiful parks in the area for our community to enjoy. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to sit in the sun, go for a hike, play with your dog or spend the day exploring nature – Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation has a spot for you!

  • The North Carolina Veterans Park is celebrated as the first state park that is dedicated to military veterans from all branches of the Armed Services. While Veterans Park provides beautiful scenery, the visitor’s center is also something to see. There’s a chandelier made from 33,500 “dogtags,”and an interactive globe that allows you to pinpoint a location and learn about the events that happened there.
  • Cross Creek Linear Park follows along Fayetteville’s Cross Creek River, providing the perfect place for locals to run, walk or bike with a view. Beautiful green areas along the pathway also offer up an ideal spot for a picnic or simply relaxing in the fresh air.
  • Looking for somewhere to spend time with your furry friends? At Riverside Dog Park, dogs can play with other dogs in one of two enclosures based on their size. All dogs must be legally licensed and have current vaccinations with tags, and outside of the enclosures dogs must be on a leash.
  • Bayard Clark Park is the city’s second largest regional park and is considered a true local gem those who frequent it. This natural woodland area is dedicated to preserving the environment and educating people on North Carolina plants and wildlife. Three trails wind through the park and a Nature Center showcases both static displays and live reptiles and amphibians. Water lovers rejoice – the park also has a put-in point on the Cape Fear River for canoes!
