Memorial Day is a special day across the nation, but especially here in Fayetteville. This holiday, originally called Decoration Day, is to remember those who have lost their lives serving our country. This weekend is a great chance to get together with friends and family, as the community has a number of activities going on. We’ve rounded up a few events for you to check out and join in on the festivities:

  • Saturday, May 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Shop local food and handcrafted products at the City Market at the Museum. The Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum hosts this market on Saturday mornings.
  • Sunday, May 28 at 7:30 p.m.: Check out A Symphonic Salute to the U.S. Armed Forces Concert at Festival Park, given by the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra (FSO) to salute the armed forces in honor of the holiday.
  • Monday, May 29 at 10 a.m.: Honor the brave and remember the fallen at Freedom Memorial Park This event fills up quickly, so consider arriving early and bringing a lawn chair with you.
  • Monday, May 29 at noon: The Airborne & Special Operations Museum Foundation and the Special Operations Force K9 Memorial Foundation are hosting a Memorial Day Service Ceremony to honor K-9 soldiers. Stick around with the kids afterward for a special children’s book reading by the author of “How I Became A K-9 Commando.”
